The story of two cousins struggling in the world of drugs and chaos in the neighborhood of La Perla of Old San Juan. A kind of modern Cain and Abel in the urban world, surrounded by characters and real situations that shook Puerto Rico and especially this colorful neighborhood that borders the walls of El Morro.

Musician Rosendo Nevárez learns of his brother Gabriel’s death in a remote spot in the Durango mountains and decides to return to his boyhood home to learn more about his brother’s untimely end. Gabriel, who was more widely known as the “Mountain Hawk,” led an outlaw’s life which was either that of a lowly criminal or daring do-gooder, as accounts of the man’s life vary depending on the point of view of the interviewee. As Rosendo digs deeper for the truth, it becomes apparent that Gabriel was a heroic figure worthy of the song his brother plans to write in his commemoration—if only Rosendo can overcome his growing envy for his brother’s immortal status as a swashbuckling rebel.

Diego's main occupation, at his 17, is his sexual fantasies. While students in Chile have taken their prostest for a better education to the streets, Diego becomes involved in these social events and ends up wounded. By accident, he enters a high prestiege school, where he will discover political intrigues and a somewhat excessive love affair.

One day, without knowing how or why, the birds of a big city leave, disappear. It is believed to be a protest against environmental pollution. Some children (the Regaliz group), then embark on an ecological campaign to get the birds to return to the city.
